Timeline

Winnifred --> Basil --> Orion

Winnifred has an onboard which seems to be the norm. During Basil’s era Elabre Systems plans to retire onboards such as Basil. Orion also has an onboard.

Setting

Winnifred — nine worlds in the belt. “They lived at the stations, modded to crawl over ship hulls and inside the narrow corridors and spaces within.”

Basil — Thirty planets in orbit with each other. Planets are pulled into orbit and then blasted away when resources are exhausted.

“Up this high, at this time, they could see the sun for the second time in A’s life. The first time in A’s memory. They could see the planets of the belt. Thirty planets, set in the same orbit as Earth, circling the sun at the same pace. Some had so many ships flying around them that it looked like a haze.”

Orion — A superstructure/ringworld connecting hundreds of planets.

Hack

Orion (Pitch) — awakes from some sort of pod, machines about the place.

“He’d been sent here tattooed, equipped with knowledge and tools, and with safeguards that he had to assume weren’t enough to hold up for long.”

Basil is a “sub-dermal ‘onboard’ computer system” that resides in A, child of Addy and Landon.

Winnifred is born to Katie and Dai. After Win is born, she has various body parts ‘modded’.

“Naturally you’ll be upgrading and replacing the parts over the course of her life.”

Win gets the same onboard (Toby) that A later gets, though in this era it is new and modern. Win and her family clean ships for a living. Win’s family can access her memories and connection with her onboard.

The Twenty-Nine Families, People of the Narrows, The Sleek, Dock Folk, Cleaners (all names for Win’s family).

9 for Winnie, 30 for A, and a ring world for Pitch.
